I’m minding my own business in my central London retail job yesterday when one of my friends, Lauren, invited me to an art performance piece she was going to be in. Sounds Interesting. Then I was told of the free alcohol, and I was completely sold!
So after I work I found my self just round the corner from Hoxton Square at a venue called La Viande, where I was confronted with the following sign
Performance at 7.45pm in basement. Due to fetishistic content we advise viewers with a nervous disposition do not attend the performance. Viewers have to be 18yrs or over.
The art itself was fascinating, a mix of photography and sculpture, all with a strong focus on the body and medicine. Some obscene, and some less so, it was all provocative and shocking. I liked it.
The performance itself was certainly 18+ rated so you will have to look elsewhere for a description, suffice to say that it was full of fetishistic content, and my friends involvement was interesting, didn’t peg her to be one to use a riding crop…
The night continued in its debauchery with free cocktails turning into a newly discovered bar in a Hoxton backstreet (which I must find again), which turned into The Hoxton. There we met up with some other friends, including Rolf, the artist at the other end of the riding crop, after which things became far too murky for me to fully remember.
Having said that, I did find myself in a certain underground bar in the back streets of Bloomsbury, on a corner, with a bizarre staircase. Yes, the very same bar that so many a pubstandards have ended in. How bizarre.
